The reactive attachment disorder of infancy or childhood neglect arises with the child’s caregivers regarding care of their emotional and physical needs, mainly during the first months of life. The disorder begins before 5 years of life and is characterized by the difficulty of the child to establish and maintain social ties, by social inhibition and hypervigilance or otherwise by extreme disinhibition. Its course and duration depend on the psychosocial deprivation that the child experiences and intervention carried out.

Social relations.
Children with reactive attachment disorder of infancy or childhood have great difficulty when it comes to the development of social skills, which are inappropriate for the child’s age. The disorder begins before age 5 and can be manifested by extreme inhibition or conversely by disinhibition.

Inhibited type.
In these cases, children are shown hypervigilant and excessively timid. The main feature is the difficulty and inability to initiate and maintain age-appropriate social relationships. Another feature of this type, is ambivalence, children tend at times to try to approach people but then avoid all contact.

Uninhibited type.
Children with the disinhibited type, usually related indiscriminately to all people, without any discrimination or choice of people with whom they are linked. In these cases, children often interact with strangers and acquaintances with overconfidence.

Cause.
This condition develops due to a lack of attention to child rearing, care involving emotional and physical care. Also, usually a common cause, the continuous changes of primary caregivers, such as in the case of changes in adoptive homes.

Related problems.
The reactive attachment disorder of infancy or childhood may be associated with eating disorders, disorder pica or rumination. The child may have malnutrition, stunting, etc. It is also common, exhibiting depression and anxiety.

Frequency.
This disorder is rare and conducting several clinical studies to be diagnosed is necessary. The defining characteristic is a pathogenic parenting in children generating this type of reaction to the situation.
